Imperator

At last! After six months of intense sessions, a new DVD ROM after the last one 'died' when a copy of the game literally exploded in the drive and two copies of Rome: Total War, I have now completed the game to become Imperater of the Ancient World.

If you're not a gamer you won't appreciate the above words but to me it represents a reward for long hours of strategy, command and faction development. Oooooh, sweet release!

Now I can turn my attention to the games I've left gathering dust since Christmas.

On the other hand, there are always the mod games in the TW series to play...aaarrrrrgh, I'm trapped in a software world of Swords and Sandals. HEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

Teamkillers are Gooood

OK. While I don't like TKs I have to admit they do add another dimension to gameplay. In addition to fighting your opponents and capturing the flag [the objective] you also have to be aware of the teamkiller in your midst. He is not so much working for the other side as working for himself. Given the chance, the TK will kill anyone.

Thus, as a player you are fighting two enemies. They have different agendas but their combined efforts do tend to thwart what you are trying to achieve. This can at times help to elevate the standard of play since you have to check your back as well as what is going on in front of you. In addition, it is necessary to be aware of the autoban if tempted to respond in kind to the teamkiller.

If gaming is not just about having fun but also about challenges and skill then TKs [sometimes] can be good.

Teamkillers are Baaaad

I'm a keen PC Gamer. Mostly, I play alone saving the girl, the planet and the universe from the supreme evil intent on having it all. And what thanks do I get, eh?

However, I have ventured into the world of multiplayer gaming from time to time and the best by far is Halo. Good maps, varied game types and best of all - a great community. Unlike other MP games I have played, the Halo community actually talks amongst itself. Of course, there are jeers of contempt and hoots of victory but there are also exchanges of jokes, interest in others' backgrounds and the swapping of IM addresses. Many of my internet friends have originated here and they have become dear to me. All this chatter while being shot in the face: fantastic.

The one spolier seems to be the Teamkiller. To the uninitiated this is a person who is supposed to be on your side  with the common interest of winning the game through co-operation and good teamplay. In reality, he exists to kill his own side. He has no concern about spoiling the game for others, he doesn't care about winning for the team and often, takes delight in the indignation he causes. The good ones know how to beat the autoban system that is meant to prevent this sort of activity.

Why do they do this, I wonder? I can only assume it is the 'bad child' in them that allows a fun pastime to become, for them, a selfish act of self-indulgence.
